The intention of the practical and theoretical intensive training program is to strengthen the skills of young and or emerging theatre. The program provides an investigation and performance center for professional ensemble training in the craft and discipline of acting in Zimbabwe.
The main focus is to provide a platform for writers to develop their distinct voices using the medium of theatre through engaging, provoking and unique narratives. The writer’s mentorship program is implemented by Zimbabwe Theatre Academy with the support of The International Chair in Creative Writing (Africa) at the University of East Anglia. The training program brings emerging writers into the creative same space to explore writing for Theatre through practice and discussions. The targeted writers are those whose voices have not yet been developed or established in the medium of theatre.
This partnership with Clowns Without Borders USA and Clowns Without Borders South Africa provide psychological support of children and caregivers through a tour connecting rural areas of Zimbabwe, Tongogara refugee camp, the Chimanimani area and Harare. The project is able to through creative and innovative interventions develop psychosocial tools.
The project focus is to groom, develop and strengthen the skills of participants on acting, writing and directing for the screen. The training aims at the development of Theatre for digital platforms. The training focuses on creating a channel for employment creation and churning out creative talent with versatile digital skill into the Zimbabwe theatre industry thus contributing to the long-term development of the Zimbabwean arts and culture
The online theatre television is an innovative local online/digital distribution platform for theatre makers in Zimbabwe. This platform is an alternative virtual platform for theatre meant to be used for the digitization, propagation, promotion and consumption of locally produced Zimbabwean online theatre content.
Zimbabwe Theatre Academy has been on the forefront of creating award winning theatre plays which has been performed at various local theatre venues and for touring in the region and internationally.
Mitambo International Theatre Festival is an annual exciting five-day international theatre festival. The creative cultural summer gathering animates Harare - The Sunshine Capital of the World, with the very best local and international theatre performances, exhibitions, installations master classes, critical talks, interactions and presentations. Mitambo draws its name from the Shona word for plays, which truly encapsulates what the festival is about: A platform through which local and global communities can access and celebrate the diversity of cultural identity, diplomacy and artistic expression.
The project facilitates participatory theatre workshops with marginalized communities for community development. It uses theatre forms and techniques with prisoners for rehabilitation and preparing them for reintegration into society.
