Our Brief History

Established in 2017, the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy Trust (ZTAT) has been an important national launch pad for new theatre makers in Zimbabwe. Dedicated to the developed and professionalization of theater in Zimbabwe, the Academy has provided specialized accessible training programs, community outreaches, performances, festivals and collaborations.

The training programs aim at capacitating creatives in delivering professional theater and screen products and services and generate new contemporary Zimbabwean theatre makers. The innovative skills training and opportunities at the academy, creates a vehicle for nurturing and amplifying new and old voices, believing that free expression is at the centre of any vibrant democratic development of Zimbabwe through theatre academy.

The Academy also focuses on re-establishing professional performance skills and play creation training in the local industry, therefore providing fresh impetus for creativity and the creation of young actor/creators, writers and directors.

The development of the Zimbabwe Theatre Academy was also inspired by the need to provide a unique alternative outlet for our youth and our community to show what amazing stories and dreams they have, giving equal priority across the gender divide and any other form of marginalization.

Objectives of the organization
